Since the founding of the Exeter Schools of Art and Science in 1851, the University of Exeter has been committed to discovery and changing lives through education. We changed our name to the University of Exeter in 1922 after receiving our charter in 1955. Prior to that, we were known as the University College of the South West.

St Luke’s College of Education, founded in 1840, joined the University in 1978. In 2004, we opened the Penryn Campus, enhancing the availability of higher education in Cornwall. We are now recognized for the excellence of both our research and teaching, and we are a member of the Russell Group.
