What Sets Us Apart

The Technische Universität Dresden and the Max Planck Institute of Molecular Cell Biology and Genetics (MPI-CBG) together organize the International Max Planck Research School (IMPRS-CellDevoSys) (TUD). Our research aims to provide an explanation for how cells develop into tissues and species. We are dedicated to fostering the growth of young scientists who are passionate about genuine cross-disciplinary research. We support early independence, ongoing professional development, and extraordinary discoveries.

What We Want

Future leaders in science will be prepared by our program. Creative and independent people are what we’re looking for. Our PhD program is made for those who have big goals, are willing to take risks, and enjoy moving quickly. It features cutting-edge scientific research, a rigorous curriculum, and incentives for quick advancement in training.

Where Are We Working?

Our PhD students and research faculty are dispersed across Biopolis Dresden, particularly at the MPI-CBG, the CSBD, and the MPI-PKS. Dresden is renowned for its magnificent baroque architecture, thriving cultural scene, and the Dresden Concept, a dynamic interdisciplinary synthesis of scientific disciplines. Learn more about the area by visiting our affiliate websites.

What We Can Provide

  • Financial assistance during the thesis’s duration

What Was the Beginning?

The CellDevoSys program was launched by the Max Planck Society in Dresden in 2001 as one of the initial International Max Planck Research School sites. In 2006, the Dresden Technical University (TU-Dresden) was recognized in the Excellence Initiative, leading to the creation of the Dresden International Graduate School for Biomedicine and Bioengineering (DIGS-BB). Under the Dresden International PhD Program (DIPP), which shares resources and encourages collaboration, the IMPRS-CellDevoSys and DIGS-BB are now partners.

Here, PhD students are given excellent doctoral training in cutting-edge fields of study. We take pride in the close-knit network we have built, which includes PhD students (or Predocs) from more than 50 different nations who work under the able direction of our seasoned researchers. Graduates from our program make up an outstanding global network of researchers. The program celebrated 15 years of successful alumni teaching in 2016 and a wide spectrum of rewarding research opportunities.

Research and innovation in science

Our program’s scientific research in our institutes serves as its cornerstone. Our PhD students conduct exceptional research while being guided by dedicated research group leaders, finally earning the freedom to reach their full potential in a hectic but encouraging environment. Our curriculum concept is centered on curiosity, creativity, and diversity, which allows collaboration to break down barriers and lead to novel insights.

We seek to comprehend the molecular processes and fundamental ideas that underlie biological systems in order to develop new technologies. The forward-thinking, creative concepts created in the labs, where we strive for game-changing discoveries, take precedence over the formal classes.

The shared resources and specialized scientific services available to our postdoctoral fellows enable them to advance the frontiers of knowledge. By directing the curriculum and planning several special activities, we encourage our Predocs to interact with one another and take charge of their own education.
